Survival, Comfort, and the Forgotten Source:
Why We Miss the Cosmic Consciousness of Life.
Human life is a journey with layers. At first, we struggle for survival. Later, we chase comfort. But somewhere in this chase, we forget the deep source of our being β the Being-Life, or what can be called the cosmic consciousness π that breathes within and beyond us.
Letβs walk step by step, in simple words and pictures, to see how this unfolds in daily living.
1. The First Layer: Physicality Survival π₯ππ
When a child is born, the very first needs are food, clothes, and shelter.
- Without food π², the body collapses.
- Without clothes π, protection from environment is lost.
- Without shelter π , safety and security are missing.
This stage is what we may call Being-Selfβs physicality survival. It is simple, clear, and natural. Every human, animal, and even tiny creature instinctively moves to fulfill these.
π Analogy: Imagine a tree π³. Its first requirement is soil, water, and sunlight. Without these, the tree cannot stand. Similarly, without basic survival needs, a human life cannot function.
2. The Second Layer: Comfort for Personality & Sociality πποΈπΆ
Once survival is taken care of, human beings donβt stop. We seek comfort. Why? Because survival only keeps us alive; it does not resolve the restlessness of our mind and heart.
This is where Being-Selfβs personality and sociality come in:
- Personality problems: identity crisis, fear, anger, jealousy, low confidence, emptiness.
- Sociality problems: loneliness, comparison, rejection, lack of belonging, search for recognition.
To deal with these, humans have created different comfort zones:
- Religions βͺπ β promise meaning, hope, belonging.
- Spirituality ποΈπΈ β promise inner peace, liberation, connection.
- Entertainment ππ΅πΊ β promise escape, distraction, and temporary joy.
π Analogy: Imagine our tree π³ again. After soil, water, and sunlight are there, it now spreads branches, grows flowers πΊ, and fruits π. These are not just about survival but about expressing itself. In humans, personality and sociality are like those branches and fruits.
3. The Trap of Comfort: Temporary Relief, Not Real Resolution βοΈ
Now hereβs the subtle truth:
- Religion, spirituality, and entertainment do give comfort.
- They help us handle struggles of personality and sociality.
- But most often, this comfort is temporary β like applying ointment on a wound without treating the cause.
Why? Because while the Self-Me keeps looking outward for solutions, it forgets the Being-Life within.
π Analogy: Imagine someone feeling thirsty π§. Instead of drinking water, they chew mint leaves π to refresh their mouth. The mint gives comfort, but the thirst remains. That is how most people live β solving discomfort on the surface but ignoring the deeper source.
4. The Forgotten Dimension: Being-Life Cosmic Consciousness π
Now letβs pause.
What is this Being-Life that we keep ignoring?
- It is the cosmic consciousness β the infinite awareness that breathes through us.
- It is not bound by personality, identity, or society.
- It is formless, timeless, and the ground of existence itself.
Every Being-Self (our physicality, personality, and sociality) is born within this Being-Life. Without it, even survival would not be possible. Yet, after survival and comfort are taken care of, most humans forget to turn toward this deeper source.
π Analogy: Imagine electricity β‘. A bulb π‘ glows, a fan turns, and a phone charges. Each device has its own form and function (like personality and sociality). But all of them run because of the same electricity. If we get lost only in repairing the devices, while forgetting electricity, we miss the very essence.
5. Why Do We Forget Being-Life? π€
There are a few reasons:
1. Habit of Extrospection π β We are trained to look outside: at problems, solutions, people, society. Rarely do we look within.
2. Comfort Illusion π β Religion, spirituality, and entertainment give quick fixes. They appear enough, so we donβt search further.
3. Ego Distraction πΆ β The Self-Me loves its identity and wants to feel important. Being-Life has no identity. That feels threatening to ego, so we avoid it.
π Analogy: A fish π is swimming in the ocean π. Instead of realizing it is already in water, it keeps searching for drops of water to quench its thirst. Humans are the same β living in cosmic consciousness, yet searching for comfort elsewhere.
6. The Missing Synergy: Self-Me and Life-Is πΈ
Real harmony is not about rejecting survival or comfort. Food, clothes, shelter are necessary. Religion, spirituality, and entertainment also have value. But they must not become the end point.
The missing bridge is synergy β the living awareness that:
- Self-Me (individual existence) is temporary, changing, and personal.
- Life-Is (cosmic consciousness) is timeless, universal, and the source.
- Together, in awareness, they form the whole Oneself well-being.
π Analogy: Think of a movie π₯ on a cinema screen.
The characters, drama, laughter, and tears are like Self-Me (personality and sociality).
The blank screen is like Life-Is β always present, unaffected, holding everything.
When you forget the screen, you get lost in the drama. When you see both, you enjoy the movie without suffering in it.
7. The Way Forward: Remembering Being-Life πΏ
How can a layperson begin to reconnect with Being-Life?
Pause and notice: Take small moments of awareness daily β breathing, watching nature, sensing silence.
Shift from only comfort-seeking to awareness: Religion, spirituality, or entertainment can be doorways, but donβt stop there.
Remember the screen: Whatever happens in personality and sociality, remind yourself of the presence of the deeper Life-Is.
This is not about belief, ritual, or dogma. It is about direct mindful awareness β what we in Chetasyog call the synergy between Self-Me and Life-Is.
8. Conclusion πΈ
Human life often moves in three stages:
1. Survival β food, clothes, shelter.
2. Comfort β religion, spirituality, entertainment for personality and sociality.
3. Awareness β remembering Being-Life, the cosmic consciousness within and beyond the Self.
Most people stop at stage two, living in cycles of survival and comfort, while ignoring the source. But true well-being lies in stage three β where Self-Me and Life-Is meet in harmony.
Just as a tree π³ is not only its roots or its branches but the living whole, so too we are not only our personality or sociality, but also the Life that flows through us.
When we live with this synergy, life is not just survival or comfort β it becomes wholeness, joy, and freedom. πβ¨
π‘ Final Thought for Reflection:
Next time you feel restless, ask yourself β am I only seeking comfort for my Self-Me, or am I remembering the deeper Life-Is within me?
