Chetasyog — Understand What Happens Within You

Chetasyog — Understand What Happens Within You
Chetasyog — a way of understanding yourself

Something happened.
What happened next, inside you?

A friend doesn’t reply. A plan falls apart. Someone says something sharp. The moment passes in seconds — but you keep replaying it for hours. Chetasyog begins with one honest question: what actually happened outside you, and what happened next, inside you?

Most of us skip straight past the chain and just say: “They made me angry.”

Look closer, and there’s a whole sequence hiding inside that one sentence. Something happened. You experienced it. You thought about it. You gave it a meaning. You felt something because of that meaning. And then you reacted — sometimes in a way you later regret.

Something happened
Your friend didn’t answer the call.
You experienced it
A flicker of disappointment.
You thought about it
“Why didn’t they answer?”
You gave it meaning
“They’re avoiding me. People don’t really care.”
You felt something stronger
Hurt. Anger.
You reacted
An angry text, sent and — later — regretted.
What if you could notice this chain while it’s happening, instead of only afterward? That noticing is where Chetasyog begins.
Three ways of looking at yourself

You don’t need new philosophy — just three simple lenses

You don’t have to memorise these words. Understand the experience first; the names can come later.

Life-Is

Life happening around you — people, plans, change — bigger than your personal story, and not fully within your control.

Selfeel

You as a living, sensing body — the tight stomach, the faster heartbeat, the discomfort that arrives before you’ve even finished thinking.

Self-Me

The personal “me” that interprets everything — carrying your memories, beliefs, fears and stories. Useful, but not always accurate.

The simple pathway

Three questions, in order

You don’t need to remember a complicated system — just these three moments, one after another.

01
☕ ME Clarity Cuppa

What is happening within me?

A quiet conversation with yourself before you react. “I am angry.” Why? “I felt ignored.” Why does that touch me so much? Perhaps an old experience. Perhaps an expectation. Perhaps you’re simply tired. You move from experiencing the feeling to understanding it.

02
🧘 Chetasyog Reflection

What actually happened — and what did I add to it?

Someone was rude — that can be true. But you can still ask: what exactly did they say? What did I assume? Is my interpretation completely accurate? What’s actually within my control? You’re not denying the feeling or blaming yourself — just seeing more clearly.

03
🧭 Pragya

Now that I see more clearly, how shall I respond?

Pragya is the practical step — choosing a wise response instead of an automatic one.

PPause — don’t react immediately
RReflect — look at the situation and yourself clearly
AAct — choose an appropriate response
GGo — do what needs to be done and move forward
YYield / Accept — let go of what you can’t control
The shift

Reaction, or response?

Without awareness

  1. Something happens
  2. I react
  3. I say or do something
  4. I regret it
  5. I keep thinking about it
  6. The pattern repeats

With awareness

  1. Something happens
  2. I pause
  3. I notice what’s happening within me
  4. I understand
  5. I reflect
  6. I choose, and respond

The situation itself may not change. But your relationship with the situation does — and that changes everything downstream of it.

This isn’t about switching off your thoughts or feelings, or becoming a different, unbothered person. It’s about learning to notice: a thought is happening, an emotion is happening, my body is reacting, I’m giving this a particular meaning — and then choosing what comes next.

It also loosens the stories we tell about ourselves. Maybe you’re not “an angry person” — maybe anger has just become a familiar response. Maybe you’re not “a failure” — maybe something you once failed at became part of your story. Seen this way, Self-Me becomes something you can understand, rather than something you’re permanently stuck inside.

You can’t control everything life brings you. But you can understand what happens within you when it arrives.

Understand yourself. See life more clearly. Respond more wisely. Live more consciously.

That is Chetasyog
